If you're feeling it's time to take a little getaway vacation away from Springfield, MO, there are so many wonderful locations not too far away. Consider some of these ideas if you're sensing it's time to reward yourself with a fun adventure.
1) Sleep in a Yurt at StoneWind Retreat
If your main mission for some time away is relaxation, check out StoneWind Retreat just outside of Chester, Arkansas. Located just under 3 hours southwest of Springfield, this 160-acre retreat is located on a mountaintop in the Boston Mountains in Arkansas. This area truly is a slice of paradise, and the quaint yurts are ideal for a romantic getaway or a fun family bonding experience. These yurts aren't just tents. If you're a theater lover, head over to St. Louis for a variety of live theater options that would entice any culture enthusiast.
The Fabulous Fox Theatre in downtown St. Louis offers year-round shows in this gorgeous ornate historic theater.
If Opera is an interest of yours, visit the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis which hosts 11 shows during the season.
Nature and theater lovers will be interested in The Muny, an outdoor theatre in Forest Park. Connect with nature, take in the fresh air, and enjoy a Broadway Musical all at the same time!
Beautiful classical and pop music is performed by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in Powell Hall.
3) Road Trip Down Route 66
Springfield is the ideal point for a road trip because it's the birthplace of Route 66. Pack up the car, put on your favorite songs, and just head west. 25 miles west of Springfield is Gay Parita, a recreated gas station from the 1920s that is full of all types of vintage discoveries. Head to the 66 Drive-In Theatre Located in Carthage. It’s wonderful for a date night after a long drive on Route 66. A road trip along Route 66 isn't complete without a picture with the famous Blue Whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma. This ginormous mammal is one of the most popular spots on Route 66. Created in 1972, The great Blue Whale sizes in at 20 feet tall and 80 feet long.
4) Kansas City, Here I Come!
Of course, Kansas City is always a popular road trip destination. The food scene, the music scene, and the sports scene in Kansas City are all fabulous. Some of our favorite areas to visit are the Power & Light District, 39th Street District, and The Plaza.
