Springfield is the ideal point for a road trip because it's the birthplace of Route 66. Pack up the car, put on your favorite songs, and just head west. 25 miles west of Springfield is Gay Parita, a recreated gas station from the 1920s that is full of all types of vintage discoveries. Head to the 66 Drive-In Theatre Located in Carthage. It’s wonderful for a date night after a long drive on Route 66. A road trip along Route 66 isn't complete without a picture with the famous Blue Whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma. This ginormous mammal is one of the most popular spots on Route 66. Created in 1972, The great Blue Whale sizes in at 20 feet tall and 80 feet long.
